BMW Offers Bluetooth Technology

Some bad news for folks who cannot stay off of your cell phones: state and local legislatures are starting to crack down. Because of the increasing number of motor vehicle accidents caused by distracted drivers who attempt to have phone conversations while behind the wheel, more and more states and municipalities are passing stringent laws against cell phone usage whilst a vehicle is in motion - and still penalties for those found in violation.

The good news is that in most cases, "hands free" cell phone usage is still allowed. A hands-free device for BMW phone users was one of the earliest such pieces of equipment, made possible by the technological miracle of BMW Bluetooth.

Today, most BMW phone users can easily connect their cell phones to their BMW Bluetooth systems. The technology installed in all new BMW 3-Series vehicles as well as the X3 and X5 SUVs and the Z4, M3 and M4 roadster can automatically transfer a call-in-progress to the BMW Bluetooth system as on enters the vehicle - so BMW phone users can continue their conversations hands-free while driving.

This process requires of course that your vehicle is equipped with BMW Bluetooth and that you have both a Bluetooth passkey and that your BMW phone is in fact Bluetooth enabled.

First, start the vehicle. Your BMW Bluetooth automatically goes into pairing mode for the first two minutes of vehicle operation.

Next, you'll need to call up the Connections menu on your cell phone and select the device search function. Once you see an ID code on the screen starting with "BMW," select it an enter the BMW Bluetooth passkey. You'll note whether or not the pairing process was successful by looking at the radio display, indicating that your data is downloading into your BMW phone system. Once this has been completed, simply make a test call.

Congratulations! You're all done!
